Update (I am still alive!)

Hello! Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated (lol). I have generally been very well – with the exception of a minor operation on my foot. I am looking forward to a relaxing Christmas at home with the family and looking forward to 2018.

The last few months have been very busy and the next few months will be equally as busy; but I should be about more (hopefully). The project I have been working on has gone live now I am now part of a new working and supporting the new system. It may have taken over 4 years but we did it.

One other piece of news from work to announce is that I have recently been promoted to a Senior Actuarial Technician.

21761778_10154940257177688_6811963392854113073_nI have had a brief holiday to Barcelona and Lloret in September to relax and catch up with my friends out there. The weather was really good and I managed to visit a few new places. It was great to catch up with my friends – although it was a brief visit. Down in Barcelona I explored the city and discovered some more gems.

I took a trip up to Tibidabo to the theme park and church and soaked in the amazing views over the city from the top of the mountain. In all the years I have been visiting Barcelona I had never been up there – and I can’t think why not! It is well worth the trip just for the views. The theme park is aimed at young children (3-8 years olds) and is a great place to take them – with mini rides – including a water ride.

21752483_10154940258182688_1441118874363468463_nI also went on a tour of Casa Amatller deigned by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and was blown away by how beautiful and ornate it was. I love Catalan Modernism and this building – although not as famous as many of Gaudi’s buildings is truly amazing. The chocolate was also pretty good too! I also explored some of the little side streets of Gràcia and wandered through the Gothic quarter – as normal – and discovered several really good places for tapas. I am a little disappointed I could not get to a FC Barcelona football game this year though but I will get to go to one in the future.

As my long-term plan as has always been to move there, I also took the opportunity to look at the town I am probably moving to, Mataró. About 45 minutes north of Barcelona by train Mataró is a coastal town with lots of shops, a marina and a quiet beach. It is perfect for commuting into the city for work. It is also 45 minutes or so from my friends further up the coast, so it’s ideally located and has everything I could ever want.

I am still looking at other places I could move to (inland to Sabadell or south of Barcelona). Wherever I end up, I am very excited about what the future holds for me out there and I can’t wait for the challenge of settling in  to a new – life hopefully soon.

There has been little progress on my own film project this year (again) but in 2018 this will be changing. More than ever I know this is what I want to do in life, I just need to get on with it. Once the script is complete (major written block), I will begin pre-production as soon as possible. I know what the project will be about but I just can’t get it down on paper. I think part of the issue is that I want to embrace improv. I need to get the spine of the story and script down and a rough outline of each scene to start getting other people involved.

To fund the film I will be trying to find fun and imaginative methods (crowd funding is one avenue etc). The goal is to make something for the festival circuit and fingers crossed get a small distribution deal a limited release in the UK. Ambitious? Yes, but I am confident in my abilities and I have a clear vision as to what I want to achieve. Attainable? If I put my full focus on to the project, undoubtably.

In 2018, I will also be going back to Locarno for the film festival – although only for the weekend. And I have booked a holiday to Spain for September – in case I am not able to move beforehand. I am sure something else will happen that will throw all my plans sideways but you can only hope for the best and plan for the worse. I am hoping for the best.

Its going to be another busy year, but things are looking up…
